Shahid Beheshti University - About University

In all its programs, undergraduate and graduate, Shahid Beheshti University endeavors to provide an environment which promotes a high level of professional preparation and performance for students from whatever background and nationality. It also establishes high promoting inter-academic relations with distinguished home and foreign institutions on the basis of exchange agreements. Publishing books and journals and holding national and international conventions and conferences are among the other objectives of the University.

History

Shahid Beheshti University is one of the largest academic institutions in Iran and one of the best known throughout the country. The University was founded in September 1960 by opening the Faculties of Architecture, and Economics.
Following the outgrow of the University, the faculties of Literature, Foreign Languages and Medical Sciences were established.

Today the University has 10 faculties, 453 full-time academic staff, and 13576 students. In 1986 due to the ratified law of the House of Councils, the Medical School and Faculty of Dentistry separated from Shahid Beheshti University and Joined together to form an Independent University named Shahid Beheshti Medical University.

Aims

Dedicated to the belief that Iran has the reputation of being one of the pioneers of culture and civilization and has offered the world eminent noble scholars, would deserve quality education. Shahid Beheshti University strives to create an atmosphere conducive to the free exchange of ideas between motivated faculty members and students.

The University, whose aim is to foster excellence in both its on-campus and off- campus programs, is more than a collection of classrooms. It is an institution in which learning becomes an exciting and lifelong challenge and opportunity.

Shahid Beheshti University fulfills its purpose by providing a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in numerous courses of study leading to the baccalaureate degree and aims to develop among graduate students specialized knowledge and skills through seminars, independent study and research.
